Market research company SuperData recently released its January global digital game market report. According to the report, the global digital game market revenue reached $11.6 billion last month, increasing 15% over the same period last year.
In January, the year-on-year growth rates of digital game revenue for PC, console, and mobile platforms were 31%, 24%, and 6%, respectively.
SuperData stated that the new shooter game Valorant from the leading company performed well on the PC side. Last month’s revenue increased by 39% compared with last December, and the number of players also increased by 29%. This is mainly due to the introduction of a new role Yoru and new season content.
At the same time, the income of World of Warcraft gradually fell back to normal levels. In November last year, the new expansion Shadow Kingdom once promoted the soaring revenue of World of Warcraft. From November last year to January this year, the monthly revenue of World of Warcraft fell by 61%, and the number of players fell by 41%.
The report also mentioned that the monthly revenue of Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PC side set an all-time high. From December last year to January this year, the total sales of PC versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Redemption Online reached 1.8 million copies, much higher than the sales of the console version (611,000 copies) during the same period. ).
On the host side, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was the game with the highest digital revenue in January, and NBA 2K21 and GTA 5 ranked second and third respectively.
